Situation
Often at home I put my wallet, Keys and phone down and the place that is open for the world to see. As a result of this I have thought about someone entering my home and these items will be easy for them to get their hands on, which consequently leads to the possibility of that person taking my valuable possessions.
Brief
I am designing and constructing an item that will enable me to store my wallet, keys and phone, so that if someone was to enter my home they would be unable to find these items. I have decided on making a ukulele with a hidden compartment as this would blend in well with the surroundings in my home as I play a few instruments and have a lot of music related items in my home.
Constraints
The completed project must not be larger than 600mmx600mmx600mm when completed
Investigation
Material
I believe that meranti would be a good timber to use on this job because it can be glued, nailed and glued relatively well, it is not to expensive and it finishes to a very nice dark reddish-brown with a pleasant small grain. I believe all these qualities are good for what I am making.
Finish
I have decided that the project should be completed with a simple estapol.
Joints
In this job the joins will all be The Dowel joint is very strong and requires care in locating the holes for the wood dowels.
